Guns, Girls and Gambling – Turn of Events

Do you enjoy movies with a simple storyline of a bunch of misfits that revolves around poker and stolen artifacts? If the answer is yes, then Guns, Girls and Gambling movie is a perfect match for your taste. Frankly, this film is exactly what the title says – a lot of violence, crazy chicks, and, you guessed it, gambling. In the following lines, we’ll take a look at the plot, the cast, ratings, and other exciting information. Without further ado, let’s get down to the full movie review.

Plot and Trailer of the Guns, Girls and Gambling Movie

The main character John Smith played by Christian Slater, finds himself in a Native American casino just passing by. Out of boredom, he decides to enter an Elvis impersonation contest and captures the attention of a good-looking lady at the bar. Unfortunately for John, she was only interested in stealing his wallet without him noticing. So, one thing led to another, and our hero ended up at a poker table with a few other Elvis impersonators.

The funny thing here is that they didn’t play a standard Texas Hold’em poker game, but a hardcore backroom version of it. While the bunch of dysfunctional Elvis imitators has fun at the table, an invaluable Native American ancient mask goes missing. Somehow, John was the one who took the blame and a fair share of the beating too. After he was forcefully put in the trunk of his car by two of the security guards, he escapes only to find them dead in the front seats.

Driven by the desire to win the announced $1,000,000 prize for the found artifact, John goes searching for it. All he knows is that an Elvis impersonator has stolen the mask, so he starts tracking them down one by one. Meanwhile, there’s another character after the bounty – The Blonde portrait by Helena Mattsson. She’s a vicious hitwoman who quotes Edgar Allan Poe every time before assassinating her victims.

While definitely not in the category of the best gambling movies, Guns, Girls and Gambling has its charm. A series of absurd and comical scenes padded with inappropriate racial jokes are the main tone of the film. You will also witness a lot of clichés; nevertheless, the film is good enough for an unpretentious movie night.

Guns, Girls and Gambling Cast, Ratings and More

When a production features Gary Oldman and Christian Slater as lead roles, you’d ultimately expect a blockbuster. Unfortunately, that’s not the case here. Even though the Guns, Girls and Gambling cast did the best they possibly could, this movie has a shameful $150k worldwide gross revenue. We’re unsure what the director Michael Winnick had envisioned, but by the looks of it, things went south somewhere along the line.

Unfortunately for Winnick, his creation never made it to the theatres, which is the main reason for the lack of global success. Maybe because it resembles a rather cheap Quentin Tarantino rip-off or the over the top conversations, we can only assume. Even though the script is very outdated, some reviewers actually enjoyed watching Indians, cowboys, blond girls, and Evlises chasing after an Apache war mask.

Name Guns, Girls and Gambling
Release Date: 8th January 2013
Genre Crime, Thriller
IMDB Rating: 5.5/10 ⭐
Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 29%
Box Office: $148,570
Director Michael Winnick
Screenplay: Michael Winnick
Starring: Gary Oldman, Christian Slater, Dane Cook, Megan Park, Helena Mattsson
Running Time: 1h 30 min

There’re plenty of plot twists and unexpected turns until the very end of the movie, if you have the nerve to spend 90 minutes watching it. Other than the lead role of Christian Slater, who plays John Smith, the rest of the Guns, Girls and Gambling cast includes Megan Park portraying “the girl next door”, and Helena Mattsson, who is “the blonde assassin”.

Gary Oldman is in the role of the winning Elvis impersonator, but honestly, he didn’t leave any significant mark in the film. The lack of screen time and any depth into his character didn’t help the award-winning actor. The fact that all characters have been very poorly developed throughout the film is yet another reason for the below-average ratings. Although the genre is crime and thriller, it resembles more of a parody for most of the time.
